PDC LESSON 1.0 PRINCIPLES – LIST, PERMANENT AGRICULTURE

  

Bill Mollison is the founder of Permaculture and together with a student of his by the name of David Holmgren; they coined the word Permaculture and evolved a whole new design concept based on traditional agriculture. The objective was to ensure a sustainable way of growing food with multiple yields in a system that will eventually support itself.

This was in the mid- seventies and since then Permaculture has grown to become a global concept that sees solutions within the great environmental and social crisis that we experience today.

 

There are the three ethics that Permaculture identifies with

 

Care of Earth; Care of People; Care of Animals;

Bill Mollison ndiye mwanzilishi wa Permaculture na pamoja na mwanafunzi wake kwa jina la David Holmgren; walibuni neno Permaculture na kuibua dhana mpya kabisa ya muundo kulingana na kilimo cha jadi. Lengo lilikuwa ni kuhakikisha njia endelevu ya kukuza chakula chenye mazao mengi katika mfumo ambao utajitegemeza.

Hii ilikuwa katikati ya miaka ya sabini na tangu wakati huo Permaculture imekua na kuwa dhana ya kimataifa ambayo inaona suluhu ndani ya mzozo mkubwa wa kimazingira na kijamii ambao tunapitia leo.

Kuna maadili matatu ambayo Permaculture inajitambulisha nayo

  PERMACULTURE COURSE AGRO - ECONOMY PDC LESSON 0.1 ETHICS ON NATURAL SYSTEMS 1.        MINIMISE FOOTPRINT 2.       CONSERVE 3.      REHABILIATE 4.      AVOID INVASIVE SPECIES   1.        MINIMISE FOOTPRINT Leave more space and resources for other species through the establishment of plant systems for our own use on the least amount of land we can use for our existence. 2.       CONSERVE Implacable and uncompromising opposition to further disturbance to any remaining natural forests and intact natural ecosystems. 3.      REHABILITATE Vigorously rehabilitate degraded and damaged natural systems so a stable state. 4.      AVOID INVASIVESPECIES Where possible use species native to the area, or those naturalised species known to be beneficial. The thoughtless introduction of potentially invasive species may upset natural balances in your home area. What is worse, it is our children’s world which is being destroyed. It is therefore our only possible decision to withhold all support for destructive systems, and to cease to invest our lives in our own annihilation. 3. MANAGE RESPONSIBILITY Policy of Resources Management: A responsible human society bans the use of resources which permanently reduce yields of sustainable resources e.g. pollutants, persistent poisons, radio actives large areas of concrete and highways, sewers from city to sea.
