PDC LESSON 4.5 SOIL – ADD HUMUS
Just about
every problem with soil can be remedied by adding humus. Constantly adding
compost to your garden beds is the kindest thing you can do for good soil
health. Compost keeps on feeding the soil organisms that make for a living and
bio-active soil. Moisture is retained and the soil temperature is kept stable.
Your garden will keep on thriving with stable humus. I add minerals into my
gardens via the animal manure. All my milking girls have kelp and other
minerals given to them daily. What they don’t need will surely end up on the
dinner plate via the garden.
If you don’t
have your own source of manure, try worm farming. This kind of livestock is
available to everyone. You can also add minerals in the form of ‘naturamin’ or
‘alroc’, kelp and calcigrit to the worm farm where all these minerals will end
up in the soil.
The mineral
dust is a fine mixture of a combination of various crushed rocks that can be
scattered over the garden beds and in about 6 months’ time this will be taken
up into the soil by the soil life.

Permaculture is based on the design of traditional
cultivated systems modelled on diversity and stability and resilience of
established eco systems.
•
Permaculture is a beautiful blend of traditional
knowledge and scientific know how.
