PDC LESSON 6.1 CROPS – WHAT TO PLANT FOR 3 MONTHS
when Harvesting is usually three months from planting the seedlings.
March / April is the time to start planting temperate vegetables.
September
is usually the last month for planting these vegetables except for beans, zucchini,
celery, beetroot, tomatoes, carrots, corn, all cucurbits such as cucumber and
pumpkin, lettuce until Christmas.
Plant from
March/ April
•
All brassicas
(broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages) including the Asian greens and cabbage
varieties (such as bok choy, pak choy etc.) Onions,
leek, spring onions and garlic no later than end April.
Harvest
onions and garlic when tops have died down in November/December

Potatoes
•
Carrots and Parship
•
Kohl rabi swedes
and other turnips
•
All leafy greens
such as lettuce, spinach, silver beet and mustard greens
•
Cucumber, zucchini
and pumpkin especially if in frost free areas
•
Tomatoes, any
variety if in frost free areas
•
Bush beans and peas
•
Rhubarb
•
Celery
•
Beet root
•
Broad beans if
planted from February- March
Some of the temperate vegetables do well in our
hot summers especially if the moisture is kept up to them.
Plant from
September:
•
Rock melon, watermelon,
cantaloupes and all other cucurbits.
•
Corn
•
Beans
•
Sugar loaf cabbage
(if there’s no white cabbage moth)
•
Capsicum and chillies
•
Egg- plant
•
Okra
•
Rosella
This description depends on a SUBSURFACE DRIP IRRIGATION. When you have this not in your farm, you must check the rainy season in your country.
