PDC LESSON 7.4 COMPOST - CARBON RICH SOURCES

Carbon rich sources

Are Straw, leaves, woody matter, corn stalks etc. are brown Nitrogen rich sources:

Fresh grass clippings, kitchen waste, animal manure etc are green

30 parts of carbon to 1 part nitrogen

All plants contain both elements, but one may be dominant.

Eg dead leaves 40:1

Fresh grass clippings 20:1

These two mixed together will create 30:1 ratio, which is ideal. Air and water- keeps the heap aerobic. Turn the heap at intervals.
